Organised Tour Options

If you would like to visit the Tiwi Islands, you need to be accompanied by a host who arranges your visitor's permit.

There are two companies that run organised tours:

• Tiwi Tours: 1-day tour to Bathurst Island (via air) or 2-day camping safari (via air). For more information: http://www.aussieadventure.com.au/titours/ti.html

Art Buying Trips

• As the Tiwi Art Network is a small non-profit organisation, it wil not run regular tours to the Islands.  However, we have scheduled 9 buying trips to the art centres in 2008.  (scroll down the page to see the dates)

• The buying trips are not a packaged tour, but are a way for keen collectors and enthusiasts of Tiwi Art to visit the three community art centres and view the artwork available for sale (at island prices).

Costs

The price is $600 per person and includes:

• your seat in a twin-engine charter plane (departs Darwin at 8am and returns approx. 6.00pm)
• approx. 2.5 hours at each art centre: Jilamara Arts & Crafts at Milikapiti, Munupi Arts & Crafts at Pirlangimpi and Tiwi Design at Nguiu.
• refreshments and lunch
• a Tiwi Art representative to accompany you for the day

The minimum number of clients for a trip is 4 and the maximum is 8.  If you would like to join one of these trips, you will need to make your booking and pay 2 weeks in advance.

*The Tiwi Islands are Aboriginal owned and controlled land. A permit is required from the Tiwi Land Council for access to all areas of the Tiwi Islands.

Cancellations: The Tiwi Art Network requires notice of cancellation 2 working days before the trip.  An administration fee of $50 per person will apply.  Any cancellations after this time will result in a 50% refund of the full ticket price.

Disclaimer: Tiwi Art Buying trips are a facilitated trip to the three art centres. Conditions on the islands can be rugged and challenging. People visiting the islands through the Art Buying Trip need to be aware that entry onto the islands is at your own risk. All art centres are covered by public liability.
