This day is a major public event on the Tiwi Islands and the NT Calender that can see between 500 and 1000 people travel to Bathurst Island by air and sea – to have an art & sport experience!
Visitor arrivals commence at 9am for the Art Sale that is held at Tiwi Designs, selling art works from the Island based art centres followed by the Football Grand Final at 1.30PM. Bring a picnic, chair, hat and sunscreen and your best barracking vocals.
You can listen to the Grand Final with Charlie King and HG Nelson on ABC Local Radio across the Territory and streamed via abc.net.au/grandstand and also through the regular 29 remote communities through the TEABBA networks.
It is likely there will be other football celebrities, past and present players, in attendance, including Ted Whitten Junior ( Bulldogs- Footscray) presenting a perpetual medal for the Best & Fairest in the Tiwi Islands Football League.
The Wurrumiyanga Club will be open from 2 – 4PM. Patrons can purchase mid strength beer during this time. There is a restriction of 6 beers per person. You must have ID which is scanned. A record of how many beers purchased per person will be recorded. Any one found cheating the system will be banned.
The Tiwi Islands have alcohol restrictions and it is likely there will be searches at the airport and ferry landing on departure and arrival.
For all spectators and players, any unruly behaviour will result in removal from the ground; this includes running on the ground and verbal and physical abuse which may result in criminal charges.
