Tiwi Islands Annual Art Sale

The annual Footy Sale will once again take place at Tiwi Design, Nguiu on Sunday 16 March 2008.  This is the same day as the Tiwi Islands Football League Grand Final, so it is a big and exciting day for the Tiwi.  We have the Imalu tigers playing Tapalinga!

Visitors do not need a permit to enter Nguiu on this day.

The sale will be from 8am-1pm, followed by the big game at 2pm on the oval.  Everything is within walking distance and remember to bring some wet weather gear and repellant as it can be a sticky day!  Some fast food will be avilable for purchase at the game, but it's a good idea to bring some food and water to keep you going.

To book transport over to Nguiu:

"We are moving forward to the future"

The Tiwi Art Network has just held its second annual joint exhibition in Darwin.

This year's exhibition focused on the emerging artists - the leaders of tomorrow, as well as acknowledging the current influential artists at each art centre.

On display were ochre paintings on canvas, ironwood carvings, ceramics and screen-printed fabrics.  Works were by such artists as Roslyn Orsto, Ita Tipungwuti, Margaret Renee Kerinauia, Theresa Burak, Bernadette Mungatopi, Declan Apuatimi, Conrad Tipungwuti, Pauletta Kerinauia & Brian Farmer.

The exhibition opened on the morning of Friday 10 August with a breakfast party.  This was the same day as the Telstra NATSIAA.  This event was part of the Darwin Festival and was sponsored by Paspaley Pearling Company.

To celebrate the 23rd Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Awards and the Darwin Festival, the Tiwi Art Network held a special exhibition in Darwin.

We were proud to have 5 Tiwi artists as finalists in the Telstra Awards - their artwork was highlighted, along with artwork by other well-know artists such as Pedro Wonaeamirri, Raelene Kerinauia and Osmond Kantilla.

Thankyou to all those who attended for your support and for making the exhibition such a success.  Stay tuned for a bigger and better exhibition next August!
